Music Video Analysis using Goodwin's Theory

I have chosen to analyse 4 different music videos from a mixture of genres, such as Pop, Rock, Hip Hop and Indie Rock. I will be using Andrew Goodwin's theory to analyse these videos. Goodwin identified 5 aspects of music videos that we as the audience should look out for when watching music videos, which are Thought Beats , Narrative and Performance , Star Image , Relation of Visuals to Song and Technical aspects of Music Video. The reason why I am going to analyse three different music videos is due to the fact I have watched the videos before and I would say they are not very structured to their genre, the way the video is done is more open and the ideas can be changed to something towards my genre. I have also thought of ideas on what I want on my music video, such as some sort of reversing shot, overlaying text at the beginning showing the artists name, a push or kick to the camera to use as a wipe, bright lighting in the studio and if I chose a strong song to perhaps have something smashed. My top 3 songs so far are OneRepublic- Dream, Imagine Dragons- Amsterdam and The Neighbourhood- Sweater Weather. After listening to the lyrics I have thought of narratives for each song that I am interested in right now. Dream to me has a narrative around wanting to become successful, learning from your mistakes and wanting to be some sort of artist. Amsterdam to me has a narrative around going through a break u...
