Different types of Music Videos

There are different types of music videos, such as Narrative, Performance and Concept.
Narrative
These videos tend to just have a story that relates to the lyrics in some way, the videos also have no lip-synched singing. However some music videos like to not just be one type but mix up together, such as narrative and performance are typically put together, so it will keep swapping throughout the video showing the narrative then a bit of performing to show the artist in the video if they are not performing in the narrative. Narrative music videos tend to be fairly simple and easy to follow, however they can be quite predictable as they do match the lyrics typically, another negative is that narrative music videos can be very expensive to produce for record labels due to the locations needed may be far away and having to take all the equipment out on set. Myfavourite narrative based music videos is Taylor Swift's Look What You Made Me Do video, this is because there are so many different stories in the video linking with her past and the media such as her argument with Kim and Kanye and even Katy Perry. She is also labelled as a "snake" by many people on social media which she uses as an advantage to create a strong music video to show she does not care anymore what people think, hence "the old Taylor is dead". The video also shows the story of when she took down her music from music streaming services as she felt she was not getting enough money for it, which the video shows her in a bank robbery. She even includes her "squad", a Calvin Harris dig, a Tom Hiddleston dig also which is another ex, also she has 13 back up dancers in one of the stories which represent each ex boyfriend she has had. There are so many things Swift did in this video and the way she did it blows me away as it has changed me in to a Taylor Swift fan.

Performance
This type of video is based on the artist performance throughout the song, they can be played throughout the whole video, for example some music videos just show a live performance at a concert of the song, or some videos can be half narrative and half performance. Performance music videos tend to be a lot more cheaper to film so you can stick to a low budget. However personally I think that a music video based on only performance tend to bore me after a minute or so therefore I prefer music videos that are half and half to keep me alert and not to predict what's going to be shown to me next. This is one of my favourite performance music videos as it shows Chris Martin the lead singer walking down to the arena to perform the song, it looks like a narrative in the beginning which is what keeps me alert, then when the performance hits it does actually improve and I enjoy the video which I am surprised with as I do not tend to enjoy performance based videos too much. However as a Coldplay fan I would not say I am surprised I like this video.

Concept
Concept music videos are very different, they can either be very interesting and you can't stop watching them or they can be so irritating you don't want to watch them. They are unique music videos as they do not match the song at all, however some songs such as Paramore's Ain't it Fun  video does to me match the song due to the fun beat as the video shows them trying to break world records. You could say that narrative and performance videos are very stereotypical music videos which could be why some people really enjoy concept videos due to their individuality. An example of a way for a music video to be in the concept type could be through doing an animated music video. This is possibly the only concept music video I do actually like, this is because I like things to match like I would expect the music video to match the lyrics, however this music video to me matches in a way, they break the world records showing they are having fun, the beats also match what they are doing sometimes and the editing makes it look interesting.
